With a career spanning two decades and nine critically acclaimed albums, Ray LaMontagne has become a household name. Critics have compared LaMontagne's music to that of Otis Redding, Ryan Adams, Beck, Pink Floyd, The Band, Van Morrison, Nick Drake and Tim Buckley. His songs have graced screens large and small in shows including Rescue Me and Alias and movies including The Boys are Back, The Town, and She's the Man.

As a self-professed "very private person," Ray's presence in the media (social or otherwise) is limited outside of his performances.

The Challenge

Create an easy-to-manage showcase for Ray's music that provides a ready touch-point for fans everywhere.

Given Ray's proclivity for privacy, his website serves as the primary (and one of the only) access points for fans to connect with this famous artist.

The Plan

Build a beautiful—and simple— website that highlights Ray's music first-and-foremost.

The site serves as a key point for announcements of upcoming or newly released songs and albums as well as a portal for fans to learn about Ray's rich history as a musician.

It also highlights upcoming concerts, merch for purchase, and showcases video content created by Ray's son, Tobias LaMontagne and his Zap!Film Co.

The Solution

A flexible site experience built on a highly supported platform (Webflow) that requires little upkeep.

The team at Apollo 21 relished the opportunity to design a site for a well-known musician. The limited content featured on the site enabled us to focus on building large hero sections all the way down the homepage:

The top section is a flexible slider unit that gives Ray and his team options for displaying featured content and announcements.

The Discography journey features each of Ray's albums, arranged in reverse chronological order, giving the viewer an encompassing view and experience as they travel back in time.

Clicking into any album gives users access to lyrics, places to listen/purchase the album, and celebrates the rave reviews that each of Ray's albums has earned.
